Soccer

He can kick it pretty far

eye on the ball, a big difference between him and his sister

very focused

GOAL!

I just hope he doesn't run over any of the other kiddies

He loves it, but then he loves all sports so far
Our ward has a little soccer club where the kiddies can play with the other kids their age without a huge commitment since they are so young.  It is so nice because they are learning some basics and getting some good exercise and we can see if it is something they would really enjoy before putting them into a bigger league or club.  I love seeing them active and involved in sports.
if her ball isn't going where she wants then she picks it up - little cheater

making an ice cream cone

see that determination

She is really learning how to run and kick it better

eye on the goal instead of eye on the ball

She tripped over her own ball most likely because her eye was not on the ball

Rice krispies Easter Eggs

I saw the commercial on tv for making these rice krispie treat eggs then two days later a neighbor brought me some rice krispie treats and I forgot how yummy they were until then.  I devoured them, unfortunately, but thought this would be cute to make for visiting teachers so we made some today.
You simply make rice krispie treats and then put them into a jumbo egg instead of a pan.
Add a few M&Ms in the middle of them and then put the other side of the egg on to form the shape.  In the commercial you were able to hear the M&Ms shake a bit but mine didn't do that, still cute but I'm obviously not the greatest at following directions.
She was my little helper and would hand me the M&Ms.  It was so funny though she was trying to hand me some and I wasn't quite ready for them and she said "Mom, you better hurry and take them before I eat them."  Then she hurried and shoved them in her mouth before I could take them.  Maybe you just have to know her little personality but I was laughing hysterically at her little comment.
Let them sit in the egg for a little while they cool off and harden then voila, undo the egg and take them out.  They had them all decorated and I tried with some M&Ms on the outside but they kept falling off.  The most important thing is that they were yummy to eat!

Learning something new

If you have been reading my posts than you know that lately I have been sewing more.  Today I worked on another project for my daughter, girls' clothes are a lot cuter than boys clothes.  I bought this material in January planning on being able to make two shirts and two pants but I happened to have enough leftover to work on a dress.

I wanted to try something new with this project and this shirt happened to use a technique called shirring.  Having never done it I was a little worried but wanted to try.  I liked being able to use different technique and this replaces the gathering that at times is too tedious.  I might have gone overboard with it though.
Around the skirt

works as an empire waist band

around the neckline

on the sleeves

The reason I may have been a little overboard is because this particular pattern was only for a shirt, however my daughter did not want just a shirt she wanted a dress.  This little girl has very strong opinions about her wardrobe already and if she does not like something she will not wear it.  SO I also tried something new in changing the pattern a bit so instead of a shirt and skirt I combined them into one dress.
wanted to show her braids also, did an under braid on each side

I think it turned out pretty cute and while the next time I would change things a bit I quite enjoyed learning about shirring and also how to adjust things while I am sewing instead of following a pattern exactly.  Tell me what you think.

Hockey

Lately my husband has been out enjoying street hockey.  He skated a lot as a teenager and since moving here he has found an outside hockey rink to play on.  He loves getting out and it is a great release from the stress of working all week to go play on the weekends.  He has been taking my son with him and my son has really been loving it.  A few weeks ago though my husband did accidentally hit my son in the leg with a hockey puck and after that decided we needed to get him some pads.  So we went to the sports store and bought him a set of shin guards, knee guards, and hip and thigh pads. We brought them home and tried them on and he looked so grown up in them that we wanted to get pictures of him.

His mean face

this is as mean as he gets

Now all we need is a helmet and some skates and he will be ready to play with the boys next year!!

When Daddy is away . . .

When Daddy is away, Mommy and the kiddies play - a marshmallow fight!!  Two against one and they definitely hit me more than I hit them.

looking for a weapon

She started throwing them with both hands at the same time

He can not only aim but throws hard too

They loved that I was defenseless with my camera trying to get pictures

Definitely a team against Mommy

Crazy hair after a crazy battle

He would collect several and then just throw them one after another

his windup and determination

and the follow through - just practicing for baseball and football

Decorating Easter Eggs

This year I decided to decorate some Easter eggs with the kiddies.  It really is a very inexpensive activity that kept the kids entertained for a good 15 minutes, that's about all I get out of most activities.

Notice I didn't let her get too close to the dye

Lately I have been finding myself at the Disney family website for coloring pages and some really fun ideas.  They have some great ideas for decorating Easter eggs.  Check out the page for yourself.http://family.go.com/holidays
