Dutch braids

I found these dutch side braids into one braid on cute girls hairstyles and loved them.  Luckily for me Caitlyn will hold pretty still and let me braid her hair.  Especially when I tell her they are princess braids, then she can hold still a little longer.

The dutch braid is basically an under braid instead of an over braid and it sticks out so is more visible.  I also only take hair from the bottom instead of both the top and bottom.

I can never resist taking a few pictures of those eyes

One day I know she will no longer want or let me do her hair so I am trying to take advantage of it while I can.

Fishtail Braid

I really had fun learning this fishtail braid to do on Caitlyn's hair.

It took a little while but she held still pretty good.  Thank you cutegirlshairstyles for such fun hairdo's and easy to follow videos.

Summer Buzz

When Liam saw some of his friends with their head buzzed for the summer we decided to do his also.  At first he wasn't quite sure when he saw all his hair flying off his head but now he likes it and it is a lot cooler on the head with our hot weather.  I was busy with the clippers so didn't get pictures of me actually doing the haircut but here is what he looks like after.

I like that you can really see his face and eyes better.  He is my handsome boy even with a buzzed head!

Learning something new

If you have been reading my posts than you know that lately I have been sewing more.  Today I worked on another project for my daughter, girls' clothes are a lot cuter than boys clothes.  I bought this material in January planning on being able to make two shirts and two pants but I happened to have enough leftover to work on a dress.

I wanted to try something new with this project and this shirt happened to use a technique called shirring.  Having never done it I was a little worried but wanted to try.  I liked being able to use different technique and this replaces the gathering that at times is too tedious.  I might have gone overboard with it though.
Around the skirt

works as an empire waist band

around the neckline

on the sleeves

The reason I may have been a little overboard is because this particular pattern was only for a shirt, however my daughter did not want just a shirt she wanted a dress.  This little girl has very strong opinions about her wardrobe already and if she does not like something she will not wear it.  SO I also tried something new in changing the pattern a bit so instead of a shirt and skirt I combined them into one dress.
wanted to show her braids also, did an under braid on each side

I think it turned out pretty cute and while the next time I would change things a bit I quite enjoyed learning about shirring and also how to adjust things while I am sewing instead of following a pattern exactly.  Tell me what you think.

Dressed for Spring

I sewed this pair of pants to go with her shirt I made a few days ago.  This time not quite as extreme with the ruffles as her last pair.
She was jumping on the couch.
I think it turn out pretty cute and have a lot of people comment on the outfit.  It's hard for me not to mention that I sewed it with a little pride.  Your heart becomes so invested into something you make yourself.  That's probably why I am sad if I cook a dinner or meal that doesn't turn out yummy.  A lot of effort, but then again the more you do something the more experience you get even if it is by learning from the mistakes you make.
She jumps too soon or too late so I can never quite focus right.  1, 2, jump instead of 3 or else it's 1, 2, 3, pause then jump.
I did her hair with two knots at the top.  Another hairstyle from my favorite website but this is the only picture she would let me take of it.  She was done with me taking pictures.

Double twist hairdo

I am always looking for new ways to do my daughters hair.  Though it is fairly short, fine and several different lengths I love to try anything with it.  She is not the best at holding still yet, (though a lot better than I ever was, just ask my mother), but I figure if I can practice doing the cute styles now when she gets older we will be pros.  I get her to cooperate by telling her we are doing a princess hairdo.  She is always willing when she being a princess is involved.
I love this website, with instructional videos and she does some really cute holiday styles.
This style is called the double twist into a side messy bun

Her hair is not quite long enough for too much of a messy bun at the end, plus she was at her I'm done point.

Finally, a hairdo

I noticed that lately in all my pictures of my daughter she never had her hair done.  Life's been pretty busy lately but still a girl needs her hair all pretty, especially my little princess.  She really is good at letting me do her hair also.  (I never was, just ask my mommy)

My sister did her daughters hair this way so I thought I would try it.  It turned out so cute and my daughter thinks it is a princess hairdo.

I was trying to show her the back in the mirror and grabbed my camera and took some pictures of her looking in the mirror.
